Previously, under the Sunshine Act as interpreted by Supreme Court in Coleman v Parkland School District, agencies were permitted to make changes within 24 hours of the start of a meeting following a majority vote of that agency provided the reason for the change was announced prior to any official action, the amended agenda was posted within 24 hours of the meeting and the minutes reflected the change.
Under newly enacted legislation, beginning on December 21, 2026, agencies will only be able to take official action at public meetings outside listed agenda items under limited circumstances, as outlined in section 712.1 of the act.
