NOW HIRING a Remote-Hybrid Appeals Officer.

The Office of Open Records (OOR) seeks a licensed attorney to serve as an Appeals Officer (AO) who drafts final determinations for Right-to-Know Law appeals. This is a hybrid remote position working in Harrisburg 1-2 days a week.  Attorneys will find it to be interesting and meaningful work that impacts citizens’ ability to hold governments accountable.

The OOR is an independent, quasi-judicial agency that adjudicates administrative appeals filed pursuant to Pennsylvania’s Right-to-Know Law (RTKL). The AO drafts the final determinations by performing intensive legal research and in-depth writing involving moderately complex to complex legal issues, which have a significant impact on the public’s right to access government records. This position also confers with private citizens and agency representatives regarding administrative appeals, including to answer procedural inquiries, clarify the arguments presented by the parties and develop the factual record.
